Former Republican candidate now head of Nevada PAC

Andy Matthews, a former Republican candidate in the 3rd Congressional District, is now executive director of Morning in Nevada PAC.

The political action committee, which announced the hire Wednesday, is tied to Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, also a Republican. Before running for Congress, Matthews was president of Nevada Policy Research Institute, a free-market think tank.

In a statement, Laxalt called Matthews “a talented, principled leader who has emerged as one of Nevada’s strongest and most effective champions for conservative ideals.”

Matthews said: “Our state faces a lot of significant challenges today, but I look forward to continuing to fight for the solutions that will empower Nevadans to meet those challenges, and to supporting the individuals who will help create a better future for our state.”

Matthews’ run for Congress ended after the June 14 GOP primaries, when Republican voters nominated Danny Tarkanian.
