Four LV teens die in crash

Four Las Vegas teens died in a car crash in California while heading home Sunday morning.

Diauante Flannigan, 19, Jada Carrier, 16, Chenell Jones, 15, and Tatiana Thornhill, 17, died in the single-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 just west of Baker, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Robin Stumps, 47, who was also in the vehicle, was listed in fair condition at University Medical Center on Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Flannigan was driving a BMW toward Nevada when he lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to veer across all lanes of traffic and onto the right shoulder where the vehicle overturned, police said.

Jones, Thornhill and Flannigan were thrown from the car as it rolled over.

Jones and Stumps were taken by Mercy Air to UMC, where Jones died. The bodies of Flannigan, Carrier and Thornhill were taken to the San Bernardino (Calif.) County coroner's office.

At least three of the teens went to Sierra Vista High School, according to friends.

"We were going to be seniors together," Lanaeshion McDavid, 17, said of Thornhill.

She said Jones, who was entering 11th grade, also went to Sierra Vista.

She said she believed that Flannigan was a friend of Thornhill's and that Stumps was a relative of Thornhill's.

McDavid said the friends had gone to California to visit a relative of Thornhill's and were on their way back.

Sierra Vista senior Candace Peters said Monday that Carrier also was a senior at the school.

In an e-mail response to questions, Sierra Vista Principal Emil T. Wozniak said he is preparing to have grief counselors on hand at the school.

"We will also be contacting the families to review their plans for remembrance," he wrote. "In the past, during such difficult times, we always check with the families to honor their wishes."
