Gibbons, first lady fail to reach accord in divorce

RENO — No settlement agreement was reached in Gov. Jim Gibbons' divorce case today after 5 and a half hours of closed-door talks with a Washoe County judge.

The governor and first lady Dawn Gibbons failed to approve a proposed settlement that would give her a monthly support payment and their Reno home -- on the market for $1.1 million -- and would give him property they own in Lamoille.

District Judge Frances Doherty scheduled a Dec. 28-31 divorce trial.

Neither Gibbons nor the first lady would comment as they separately left the courtroom.
