Gibbons improving after pelvis break
CARSON CITY -- Gov. Jim Gibbons has been improving from the injuries he suffered in a Sept. 21 horse-riding accident and was moved Monday to a section in Renown Regional Medical Center that specializes in rehabilitation.
His surgeon said Gibbons' chances of a full recovery from the accident in which his pelvis was broken are excellent, according to Daniel Burns, Gibbons' spokesman.
But Burns said it is not known when doctors will give the governor permission to leave the Reno hospital and return to the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.
"The medical experts have determined that the governor's injuries have healed enough to allow for more active rehabilitation, which will eventually lead to his release from the hospital and his return to the Governor's Mansion," Burns said.
Gibbons is receiving regular briefings from his staff and will participate in meetings by telephone in future weeks, said Burns, who has been visiting the governor in the hospital. The governor chairs several committees .
The governor is reading newspapers and watching TV, Burns said.
The governor has not agreed to media interviews.
