Golf carts OK’d for Blue Diamond streets

Blue Diamond's streets have been designated safe for golf carts, even though there are no fairways or putting greens within miles.

Clark County commissioners voted Tuesday to allow residents to drive golf carts in this enclave off state Route 159 near Red Rock. Owners must be licensed, and they must register the carts with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

A dozen people, most of them older, like to drive golf carts to the store, post office and other sites within the small village. Blue Diamond began in the 1940s as a housing complex for gypsum miners and now has roughly 300 residents.
