Google calling

The Google phone is here! Well, almost.

The long-awaited new player in the smart phone world has teamed up with T-Mobile and handset maker HTC to build the first device using the Google Android operating system. (Oh, goody, a new OS!) Folks will have to wait until October 22 to buy one in the U.S., and early reports say they'll sell for less than the Apple iPhone, and will also have lower-priced rate plans.

I am working on getting my hands on the G1, which features a full keyboard, sometime very soon, and will do full review here and in my column.

In the meantime, see what MediaPost had to say about the latest addition to the Google family.

Is it possible that the phrase "Google it" will take on new meaning?
