Governor appoints new tax director

CARSON CITY - Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Friday that he has appointed Chris Nielsen as director of the Department of Taxation and moved current Taxation Director William Chisel to the post of chief financial officer of the Division of Mental Health and Development Services.

Nielsen, the former staff lawyer to Gov. Jim Gibbons, had served as interim director of the Taxation Department for six months last year after longtime director Dini DiCianno resigned, a day after telling legislators his staff had not been auditing mining companies.

The job pays $124,528 a year.

Chisel, a 27-year employee, replaced Nielsen last September after serving as chief of audits for the administration. Nielsen became deputy director.

Also, Richard Whitley was appointed administrator and Dr. Tracey Green as medical director of the Mental Health and Development Services Division.

They had been acting on an interim basis in these positions since last October.
