Governor says he won’t seek office again if he loses

CARSON CITY -- Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons says he plans to celebrate, win or lose, after next week's Republican primary.

Speaking Thursday on KRNV-TV's "Nevada Newsmakers," the first-term governor said while his preference is for another four years in the Governor's Mansion, he's prepared to welcome new challenges and opportunities that would come with defeat.

He also said that should he not be re-elected, he does not intend to seek public office again.

Polls have shown Gibbons trailing GOP front-runner Brian Sandoval by double digits. Nevada's primary is Tuesday.

Gibbons also trails in campaign fundraising, but dismissed any suggestion that puts him at a disadvantage.

He says he has all the money he needs to run a campaign.

In his latest campaign finance report, Gibbons reported $179,000 in contributions in the first five months of this year. Sandoval's campaign says it will report just shy of $1 million.
