Great summer fun awaits families at YMCAs

The YMCA of Southern Nevada offers budget-friendly solutions for families looking for entertainment, quality child care and countless ways to stay active.

Back by popular demand is the Y's Sizzlin' Summer Pass, which provides unlimited access to the Y's water parks, pools, wellness centers and classes. At just $109 for an individual or $209 for the family, it's a hot deal that guarantees four months of entertainment and together time. Multistory flume slides, sparkling indoor and outdoor pools, aqua play zones, wellness centers with new cardio equipment and exciting classes like yoga and Zumba await the young and young at heart.

Sizzlin' Summer passes are on sale through July. The pass is good for four months from the purchase date and can be used at all locations. The Y's outdoor water parks are open from May 28 through Sept. 5. The public is welcome, and the cost is $5 per person daily without pass or membership.

In addition to providing "aqua entertainment," the Y is the answer for parents in need of a safe place to send their kids this summer. Day camp for youth ages 5-15 runs June 13 through Aug. 26, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To accommodate parents' schedules, the Y provides free care for campers from 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. The Y offers dozens of camp choices, including traditional, magic, cooking, science, animal planet, rock climbing, glamour girls, sports, cheer and many more. Camp includes structured activities like swimming, arts and crafts, group games and character development activities .

Weekly camp prices range from about $100 to $200, and a daily drop-in rate of $45 is available. No one is turned away because of an inability to pay. Financial assistance is available.

"For countless families, summertime means Y time," said Mike Lubbe, YMCA president and CEO. "Childhood obesity is on the rise, schools have transitioned to a nine-month calendar and people want affordable, safe options. "

This is the first summer for the Y's newest operation in North Las Vegas. The Y was recently awarded the contract to operate the city of North Las Vegas SkyView Multi-Generational Center. The new 36,000-square-foot facility at 3050 E. Centennial Parkway is open throughout May for tours, camp signups and Sizzlin' Summer pass sales.

The SkyView YMCA opens for use June 1. The first 250 SkyView members will receive a backpack filled with Y gear and more than $150 in free offers, including a free wellness coaching session and the choice of either a free week of camp or free swim lessons.

Other locations include the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA at 4141 Meadows Lane and the city of Las Vegas' Durango Hills Community Center at 3521 N. Durango Drive and Centennial Hills Community Center at 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, both operated by the YMCA. Visit lasvegasymca.org to learn more.
