Group asks Nevada high court to decide ballot case

With time running out, a group backed by the Culinary Workers Union is again asking the Nevada Supreme Court to order two anti-redevelopment measures to be placed on the June 2 municipal ballot.

A 52-page filing submitted today by the Las Vegas Taxpayer Accountability Committee argues the state high court could extend voting or order a special election if it decides the Las Vegas City Council improperly blocked the measures.

The group wants to put measures before voters to repeal the Las Vegas city redevelopment plan and require voter approval for major projects like a proposed new city hall.

The state Supreme Court reviewed the question once before, but sent it back to a Clark County District Court judge. He upheld a City Council decision that the measures were defective.
