Hail to the geeks

A click of the mouse to the Las Vegas PC User's Group, for which I had the pleasure of being featured speaker Wednesday night. I shouldn't have been surprised to see about two-thirds of the audience members raise their hands when I asked how many had built their own computers. What did surprise me was that none of the 40 or so people present were iPhone users. "No, that's AT&T" came a shout out from the audience.

I'm hoping the two members that raised their hands when asked how many Macintosh users were present will be able to persuade others to give Apple a try — or at least head to a nearby Apple store to see what's available.

I had fun sharing some Internet history and the audience helped fill in some gaps in my presentation. I would expect no less from a group of longtime computer geeks — I use the term in the nicest fashion, of course. Even though I haven't soldered components to a motherboard, I do respond when someone's looking for a geek to help them out.
