Hearing addresses Kiel Ranch plans
January 9, 2009 - 10:00 pm
North Las Vegas is asking for public input on plans to preserve Kiel Ranch, site of one of Nevada's oldest buildings, a natural wetland and a lot of local history.
The city began cleaning up the long-neglected ranch on Carey Avenue near Commerce Street after preservationists complained about it being left to deteriorate.
The 7-acre ranch, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the site of three unsolved shooting deaths in the late 19th century, including that of Archibald Stewart, husband of Las Vegas pioneer Helen J. Stewart.
A workshop to discuss a preservation and development plan will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive.
