Heck heads Army hospital unit

Dr. Joe Heck, a Republican state senator from Henderson and an Army Reserve colonel, has taken command of an Army hospital unit in San Diego that provides medical personnel in support of the war on terror.

The command includes subordinate units in Las Vegas and March Air Reserve Base, Calif., and a detachment at Port Hueneme Naval Base, Calif., according to a statement from a public relations firm.

The unit provides medical support to military installations that process deploying and re-deploying troops, and it supports other overseas missions, including ongoing operations in the Balkans.
