Heller to seek IRS funding cut

WASHINGTON — Sen. Dean Heller said Tuesday he will seek to cut off funding for new Internal Revenue Service agents following disclosure the agency targeted conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.

The bill Heller said he plans to introduce this week would serve two purposes. It would allow him to express his unhappiness over the IRS scandal, while also striking a blow against the Affordable Care Act that he opposes.

Heller said the bill would refuse $440 million for the IRS to hire more agents to help carry out the health care overhaul law.

The funding would be suspended “until Congress sees an improvement,” the Nevada Republican said in a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
