Henderson academy gets $1 million donation for school building

New Song Lutheran Church and Christian Academy announced Tuesday it had received a $1 million private donation for a future school building. The Henderson school has 57 preschool and first grade students.

“This gift provides a major boost in the ongoing development of our school,” said Pastor Marta Poling-Goldenne in a statement. “It sets in motion a process that will result in a new school building by 2016 or 2017.”

New Song has told Henderson officials its long-term plan is to develop a preschool through fifth grade program.

New Song Christian Academy operates as a ministry of New Song Lutheran Church, located on 5.1 acres at 1291 Cornet St., near the entrance to the Anthem community.

The school has been in operation for five years and has drawn some complaints from residents for its location near residential neighborhoods.

The Henderson City Council approved by a 4-1 vote the school’s expansion to first grade in April 2013 after hearing concerns from residents about increased traffic and possible negative impacts on property values.
