Henderson approves scoreboard purchase

A new scoreboard could be installed by the end of summer at the Multigenerational Outdoor Competition Pool in Henderson.

The Henderson City Council gave its approval Tuesday for the purchase of a new scoreboard from Colorado Time Systems at a cost of $61,400.

Kim Becker, spokeswoman for the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, said the pool has had its existing scoreboard since the facility was built in 2003. Currently, about 40 percent of its lighted panels are functional.

The pool, located at 250 S. Green Valley Parkway, is open year-round.

Its existing scoreboard also was purchased from Colorado Time Systems. According to background provided with Tuesday’s agenda item, that model is no longer produced, and the company can only provide salvaged parts.

Becker said the new scoreboard will be compatible with the pool’s existing software and hardware. It will feature LED lighting and will have the ability to display pictures or video.

The Heritage Park Aquatic Complex, completed in January 2010, has a similar scoreboard.

“Having a quality scoreboard is critical when we’re trying to bring in competitions and events on the national level,” Becker said.

Last summer, the U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships were held at the Heritage Park complex, 310 S. Racetrack Road.
