Henderson begins tree recycling

The city of Henderson is accepting Christmas trees for free recycling through Jan. 14 at six locations.

City Parks and Recreation officials will chip trees for mulch used in city parks and landscaping at municipal buildings.

Officials said more than 1,700 trees were recycled through the program last year.

City parks operations chief Doug Guild said trees must be free of nonorganic material including lights, wires, tinsel, nails and ornaments. And flocked trees can't be recycled.

Christmas tree drop-off locations are Acacia Park, Anthem Hills Park, Mission Hills Park, Morrell Park, Pecos Legacy Park, and the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center.
