Henderson council to reconsider science museum allocation

The new-look Henderson City Council will reconsider a contentious vote last month to transfer $21 million in city money to a nonprofit board seeking to develop a space and science museum.

New Mayor Andy Hafen asked for the matter to be discussed again when the council meets on Tuesday.

The monetary gift from the city was approved during the last meeting for out-going Mayor Jim Gibson and City Councilman Jack Clark, both of whom cast crucial votes that allowed the transfer to go forward.

Both men serve as unpaid members of the board that hopes to develop the museum, at an estimated cost of $61 million, on 160 acres the city owns along U.S. Highway 95 near Russell Road.

That seems like an obvious conflict of interest to Henderson resident and failed City Council candidate Bruce Cutler. He filed a state ethics complaint against Gibson and Clark on Wednesday.
