October 4, 2007 - 9:00 pm
Henderson has chosen its assistant city manager, Mary Kay Peck, to replace outgoing City Manager Phil Speight, effective Oct. 18.
Peck began working for the city as its zoning administrator in 1995.
She also has served as the city's director of community development.
She has a master's degree in urban planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor's degree in urban affairs from the University of Evansville in Indiana.
Peck will oversee the city's $221.4 million budget and 1,879 full-time employees.
Her salary has yet to be decided, Henderson spokeswoman Cindy Herman said.
Speight's salary was $212,032 a year. In comparison, Las Vegas City Manager Doug Selby earns $206,064. North Las Vegas City Manager Gregory Rose earns $194,288. And Clark County Manager Virginia Valentine, who oversees a $5.7 billion budget and 10,500 employees, earns $207,500.
Speight is leaving Henderson after nearly 20 years as its city manager to become chief of staff to Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev., in Washington.
He recommended Peck as his replacement.
The Henderson City Council accepted his recommendation at its Tuesday meeting.
