Henderson hires new public affairs director

The Henderson City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to fill a new position: senior director of public affairs and economic and cultural development.

City Manager Jacob Snow said he offered the job to Tracy Bower, his former colleague at the Regional Transportation Commission, and she accepted. Snow was general manager of the Transportation Commission until April, when he was appointed to his current position. Bower has been employed as the commission's director of public affairs.

The city manager said he came up with funds for the new position, which pays $160,000 a year, by canceling a couple of government affairs contracts. He said the contract cancellations will save the city about $240,000 a year, and Bower's responsibilities will include government affairs.

Snow has decided to consolidate public affairs responsibilities, which will be overseen by Bower, in the following areas: cultural arts and tourism, economic development and redevelopment, communication and intergovernmental relations.
