Henderson tightens lobbying rules

Tougher regulations of lobbyists and a 12-month cooling off period for city of Henderson officials and employees were enacted Tuesday.

The ordinance, approved by the City Council on a 4-0 vote after no discussion, requires lobbyists to register with the city prior to communicating with a city official or employee.

It also requires lobbyists to file a disclosure form after each communication.

The new rules apply not only to the City Council, but also to the city's Planning Commission and staff.

Also, elected officials and employees now must wait one year after leaving city office or employment before they can lobby on behalf of a private person or business.
