Herron out early

Tim Herron equaled the best round of the week, posting a final-round 62 to ascend to the top of the leaderboard at around noon Sunday.

He won’t be there long.

Herron is tied with Marc Turnesa at 21-under-par, but most of the leaders have yet to tee off.

The winner of the tournament will likely be at least 26 under, but Herron’s Sunday surge was still impressive.

It will also earn him some money as his final standing will almost certainly improve.

Football Frenzy

The place to be during the final round each year is “The Hill.”

The facility is an entertainment plaza that looks over the 18th green at TPC Summerlin.

Inside, about 50 plasma screen televisions are set up and equipped with “NFL Sunday Ticket.” Fans can watch football and keep up to date on the golf action.

There are also several bars inside, making the Chargers' loss in Buffalo a bit more tolerable for all the San Diego fans that were viewing the game at “The Hill” in the morning.

The loudest roar of the day so far from the fans at the golf tournament occurred when the satellite feed from Buffalo went out, leaving the game off the air for more than a half hour.

Saturday clinic successful

Justin Timberlake held a golf clinic for children at the course after the conclusion of Saturday’s round.

Several PGA Tour professionals, including Nick Watney, Charley Hoffman and Fred Couples, participated in the event, which drew 168 children.

Greg Maddux also made an appearance.

Timberlake also provided 18 local Shriners patients front-row seats to the clinic, and a gift.

Each of the 18 was given an Xbox and a copy of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’08 video game.
