High art and low behavior: Is Greece our future?

What is it about art imitating life? And what art could be more evocative, more insightful, more illustrative of the vicissitudes of life than the daily comics?

On the front page is a photo of rioting Greeks, upset by what is being called an austerity move. A BBC story spells out some the measures listed in previous stories: pay freeze for public sector workers, some pay cuts, some job losses. But this follows pay increases of 30 percent since 2006. Annual bonuses, paid as 13th and 14th month salaries, will be axed or capped.

On the comics page is a cartoon called "Over the Hedge." The turtle character this week has been feeding an ant hill, which has taken to calling him a god. Today the turtle runs out of manna. Guess what?
