High court rejects killer’s appeal

CARSON CITY -- Another appeal from a man sentenced to death for the May 1998 slaying of a Las Vegas bartender has been rejected by the Nevada Supreme Court.

The court on Friday rejected an appeal from Charles Lee Randolph, convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Shelly Lokken, 31, during a robbery at a tavern where Randolph formerly worked.

Lokken was handcuffed and shot twice in the head as she knelt on the floor of a walk-in freezer. Prosecutors said Randolph, a cocaine addict, and another man decided to rob the tavern after they ran out of money for drugs.

Tyrone Garner got 100 years in prison for his role in the killing. Prosecutors said Garner was the getaway driver.

Randolph, who lost a Supreme Court appeal in 2001, said in this appeal that his lawyer failed to look adequately into possible errors by police.
