Highway patrolman sentenced
MINDEN -- A Nevada Highway Patrol sergeant has been sentenced after being found guilty of drunken driving stemming from a June motorcycle accident.
East Fork Justice of the Peace James EnEarl gave Norman Bailey a choice of serving two days in jail or 10 days house arrest.
Bailey, 38, of Carson City, also was fined $692 and ordered to complete a class for those convicted of driving under the influence
According to court documents, the 11-year Highway Patrol veteran was off duty when he drove off a road north of Genoa while steering his motorcycle around a stopped vehicle.
Bailey suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
A preliminary test indicated a blood-alcohol level of 0.17, nearly twice the state's legal limit of 0.08.
Nevada Highway Patrol Maj. Tony Almaraz said Bailey would remain on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
"He's not on the road," Almaraz told Gardnerville's Record-Courier newspaper. "We ... consider it unacceptable. It's certainly embarrassing for the department."
