Horse dies at South Point
A champion Spanish horse died after performing at a competition at South Point on Friday night.
South Point spokeswoman Courtney Fitzgerald said the horse, Ravel, was owned by a California man and had just finished its performance when it died about 8:30 p.m. in front of about 500 spectators.
Ravel was competing in an event hosted by the Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse at the hotel-casino's equestrian events center, she said.
Veterinarians believe the death was cardiac-related.
The remainder of the first day's competition was canceled and spectators were given refunds.
The event resumes today. At 1 p.m., organizers will host a special remembrance for the horse, Fitzgerald said.
