Human bones found off U.S. 95

A man looking for desert tortoises off U.S. Highway 95 past Boulder City on Thursday found human bones, authorities said.

The bones were in the desert about half a mile off U.S. 95 and halfway between the turnoff to Searchlight and the town of Searchlight, said Boulder Police Deputy Chief John Chase.

He said the body appeared to have been in the desert for at least a year. Police were investigating it as a suspicious death.

Authorities didn't know Tuesday if the body was that of a man or a woman, Chase said.
