Huntridge among Nevada historic projects getting rehab grants

CARSON CITY — Nevada’s historical resources, including Las Vegas’ Huntridge neighborhood, will soon receive $182,000 from off-shore oil and gas lease fees.

The money is being distributed by the state Historic Preservation Office to government agencies and nonprofit organizations for 13 projects that support historic building rehabilitation or restoration, public education, surveys, planning, and National Register nominations.

Among the awards are $30,000 to the city of Las Vegas for its Huntridge Neighborhood Historic Resource Survey and Inventory, $7,000 to the city of Henderson to develop a historic preservation plan, and $20,000 to the Nevada Rock Art Foundation for the production of decks of playing cards dedicated to Nevada’s cultural resources.

The largest award of $40,000 went to the city of Fallon for structural repairs to the foundation of city hall.

The National Historic Preservation Fund receives about $44 million a year. The appropriation for each state is calculated using Census figures and the state’s land area.
