Pilot, passenger hurt as plane flips while landing on road

A small plane with engine problems tried to land on a road north of Sparks but flipped over.

Authorities said Saturday's crash left the pilot and a passenger with just minor injuries.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said the aircraft came to a rest upside down.

He said the Cessna 182 had taken off from Reno Stead Airport, where it was planning to return.

The identities of those aboard weren't immediately available.

Four hurt when oxygen bottle explodes in target practice

Four people were hurt after an oxygen bottle being used for target practice exploded and sent shrapnel flying.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office said the four were apparently watching the shooting on Saturday between Sun Valley and Hungry Valley when they got hurt.

Police said a 24-year-old woman who sustained cuts and possibly broken bones was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center. Two men, ages 25 and 30, along with a 46-year-old woman, were also treated for cuts. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening.

Their names were not released.

An investigation is continuing.

Gibbons tells National Guard to help in Arizona flooding

Gov. Jim Gibbons has ordered the Nevada National Guard to help flooded communities in northern Arizona.

Arizona officials requested air support to assist after heavy flooding in the Flagstaff area.

The Nevada Army National Guard will deploy one Chinook helicopter and two Black Hawk helicopters from a facility in Stead. The governor's office said Sunday the helicopters will head toward Flagstaff as soon as weather in Northern Nevada permits.

A powerful storm on Thursday caused widespread flooding in Arizona and power outages in several areas.
