Woman dies after hitting tree sledding on Mount Charleston
A tourist sledding down an icy hill on Mount Charleston died Saturday afternoon after crashing into a pine tree, Las Vegas police said.
Lt. Steve Herpolsheimer said the accident occurred in Kyle Canyon between 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The woman's identity was not released.

Police find man shot multiple times in Las Vegas residence
A man was fatally shot in the southwest valley early Friday morning, Las Vegas police said Saturday. Police did not identify the victim.
Police said they were called to the 5000 block of Pine Mountain Street, near Decatur Boulevard and Windmill Lane, about 6 a.m. because of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered the man, shot multiple times, inside a residence. He was taken to the University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the victim was shot shortly after he argued with an unknown number of people. A man then produced a gun and shot the victim. The suspect then fled, police said.
Police did not provide a detailed description of the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the slaying is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Metropolitan Police Department's homicide section at 828-3555.

PETA seeks cancellation of donkey basketball fundraiser
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is calling for the cancellation of a Nevada school's donkey basketball fundraiser .
PETA is asking supporters to contact Lyon County School District Superintendent Caroline McIntosh and urge her to cancel the March 1 event at Yerington High School.
PETA claims donkeys ridden by players in the games are often dragged, kicked, or hit by stray balls, and are sometimes seriously injured in falls.
McIntosh said the fundraiser is a tradition at Yerington High. But she says she will check with the vendor who supplies the donkeys to ensure they are treated humanely.

Smoke leads police to house filled with marijuana plants
Smoke pouring from a Sacramento, Calif., home led police to a large indoor marijuana growing operation.
Firefighters found more than 100 pot plants growing in the home, while other plants were being dried. They also found grow lights and a ventilation system at the unoccupied home.
Sacramento Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said the fire appears to have been started by an electrical malfunction in the attic early Saturday.
They're searching for the home's owner.
