Public comments sought on judicial performance system

A meeting to gather public input on the creation of a statewide system to evaluate the performance of judges in Nevada gets under way at 10 a.m. Monday at the Regional Justice Center.

A subcommittee of the state Supreme Court's Article 6 Commission released a final report in May and a supplement was added in September.

The subcommittee recommended five steps to implement the system "as a way to assist voters in determining how well judges are doing their jobs," according to a statement released by the high court.

Monday's meeting is a video-conference between the Supreme Court building in Carson City and the courtroom on the 17th floor of the Regional Justice Center.

ASSESSING SERVICES

Five forums remain for public to give input on city budget

There are five remaining town forums for Las Vegas residents to tell city leaders what services are most important as the city assesses budget cuts to plug deficits that are expected over the next few years.

Mayor Oscar Goodman, City Manager Betsy Fretwell, the council representative from the ward and other city officials will attend.

The forums are free and will be at the following dates and locations:

■ 6:30 p.m. Monday -- Las Vegas Chuck Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Road

■ 6:30 p.m. Wednesday -- Southern Nevada Health District, 625 Shadow Lane (Clemens Room)

■ 10 a.m. Feb. 27 -- Bill and Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane

■ 6:30 p.m. March 1 -- Starbright Theater, 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd.

■ 6:30 p.m. March 4 -- Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.
