SON'S SHOOTING DEATH

Slaying suspect held in California jail

The man accused of shooting and killing his 31-year-old son last month was being held in a Monterey Bay-area jail Tuesday night.

Jerry Pough Sr., 54, was being held in the Santa Rita, Calif., jail without bail on a fugitive warrant, according to jail records.

Las Vegas police issued a warrant for his arrest after the Sept. 20 shooting, which left Jerry Pough Jr. dead in a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Summerlin Parkway and Buffalo Drive.

Witnesses said Pough Sr. argued with his son before the shooting.

Police said Pough Sr. suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

DRILL AT MCCARRAN

Authorities to test emergency response

Authorities will be conducting a realistic emergency exercise using a passenger jet and a helicopter at McCarran International Airport today.

The exercise, which took more than a year to plan, will simulate an emergency near one of the airport's busiest taxiways.

Local fire, police and rescue personnel will coordinate their response just as they would during a real event.

Nearly 200 high school students from four area trade schools will pose as "victims." Smoke and pyrotechnics will add to the realism.

Ambulances and rescue helicopters will participate and shuttle the "victims" to 12 participating local hospitals.

The exercises are required by the Federal Aviation Administration once every three years for airports to maintain their certification.

NEAR SUNRISE MOUNTAIN

Passers-by spot body in desert ravine

A decomposed body was found Tuesday afternoon in a ravine in a desert area near Sunrise Mountain.

Las Vegas police said foul play was not suspected, but the Clark County coroner's office will make the determination of how the person died.

Police said a man walking nearby saw the body and called police at 2:39 p.m.

Police search-and-rescue officers in a helicopter went to the scene and found the corpse.

Details on the dead person, such as name or gender, were unavailable Tuesday.
