ARIZONA MAN ARRESTED
Hit-and-run alleged in bicyclist's death
An Arizona man was arrested after police said his vehicle struck and killed a bicyclist early Wednesday in Bullhead City.
Gino Salvatore Gagliardi, 53, was taken into custody at his home in Fort Mohave about three hours after the accident. A Bullhead City police spokeswoman said that Gagliardi was jailed for leaving the scene of a fatal accident and that additional charges are pending.
Larissa Jean Castilleja, 43, of Bullhead City died at the scene of the 4:12 a.m. collision on Bullhead Parkway, said Bullhead City police spokeswoman Emily Montague.
Montague said investigators think alcohol played a role in the fatal accident. Montague said that Castilleja was wearing a helmet and that her bicycle was equipped with safety lights.
BULLHEAD CITY-LAUGHLIN
Bridge project cost rising, official says
The cost of a bridge between Bullhead City, Ariz., and Laughlin has gone up another $5 million to an estimated $75 million.
Laughlin Town Manager Jackie Brady told her advisory board Tuesday the estimated price tag is almost three times what the earliest, most expensive bridge option would have cost 14 years ago.
In 1995, Brady said, the Pass Canyon option was approximately $27 million. And Brady said that Clark County had the money then.
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is the lead agency for environmental impact studies of bridge sites.
The commission said at recent public meetings in both communities that it expects to make its final recommendation on a bridge site by the middle of next year.
'AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL'
Park in Nevada to have place on 2013 quarters
Nevada's Great Basin National Park will be featured as part of a line of "America the Beautiful" quarters that debut next year.
The U.S. Mint says the quarters will be issued in the order that the places were established as national sites.
The Nevada quarter will be issued in 2013 and is the 18th planned in the program.
The park features the Lehman Caves, which can be entered only with a guided tour.
Also in the park is Wheeler Peak, the second-highest peak in Nevada at 13,063 feet.
The National Park Service Web site says Lehman Caves National Monument was established Jan. 24, 1922. Great Basin National Park was established Oct. 27, 1986.
