NORTH LAS VEGAS

Suspect held in fatal shooting in June

A 28-year-old North Las Vegas man was arrested Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in June.

Jarrell Young was arrested on the 5300 block of West Desert Inn Road for the June 12 slaying of Brandon Manor, North Las Vegas police said. Manor was killed at the Cheyenne Villas apartments, 3260 Fountain Falls Way, near Cheyenne Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Police said Young was arrested by members of the Criminal Apprehension Team, the Safe Streets Gang Task Force and North Las Vegas police detectives. Young faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon, police said.

WYOMING INCIDENT

No charges in Taser use on tractor driver

Prosecutors in Cheyenne, Wyo., say they won't file any charges after police used a Taser to try to subdue a 76-year-old man driving an antique tractor during a parade in Glenrock.

Prosecuting Attorney Quentin Richardson released a statement Monday after reviewing a report into the Aug. 1 incident. Glenrock police Chief Tom Sweet says Bud Grose ignored an officer's traffic command and then kept driving until officers pulled in front of him.

Sweet says an officer shocked Grose with a Taser, but that failed to subdue him.

ON THE U.S.-MEXICO BORDER

U.S. resumes flying immigrants to Mexico

Immigration authorities are flying illegal immigrants deep into their native Mexico from Southern Arizona to discourage dangerous crossings in triple-digit heat.

The twice-daily flights from Tucson to Mexico City are intended to keep immigrants away from border towns where they would likely run into smugglers who want to sneak them back into the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security flights began Saturday for the sixth straight summer and will end Sept. 28.

Tucson is the only spot in the country where the flights depart. Arizona is the busiest illegal entry point.

Since 2004, more than 82,000 Mexicans have been returned as part of the repatriation program.
