MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN UTAH

Nevada man killed on mountain highway

A Nevada man lost control of his motorcycle on the curve of a mountain highway and was run over and killed by another driver, the Utah Highway Patrol said Sunday.

Joel Norman Macrae, 52, of Spring Creek died Saturday on state Route 143 in Iron County near the ski town of Brian Head. Troopers said he was wearing a helmet.

HIGH USE AMONG ISSUES

Carson City residents asked to halt watering

Residents in Carson City are being asked to stop outside watering until the city can replenish its water supplies later in the week.

High water use, combined with well failures and the city's inability to draw on Marlette Reservoir, led to Saturday's Stage 2 Water Alert.

The reservoir is in the third year of a construction project.

Lyon County is helping with a connection that allows it to trade water with Carson City.

Kissing protest pits gays versus Mormons

A mass kissing protest Sunday near the Mormon church temple drew a shouting match between gay activists and Mormons.

About 100 people gathered for the second consecutive weekend to stage a "kiss-in" to protest the treatment of two gay men cited for trespassing July 9 after they shared a kiss on the plaza owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Both gay and straight couples kissed during the protest.

Demonstrators were greeted at the south entrance by Mormons carrying signs that denounced homosexuality, prompting a heated verbal exchange.

Police said no one was arrested or cited despite the large group exchanging kisses by a reflecting pool at the plaza's center.
