IN BRIEF

2-YEAR-OLD HENDERSON GIRL

Drowning in pool at home ruled accidental

A 2-year-old girl drowned in the swimming pool of her Henderson home Wednesday afternoon.

The Clark County coroner's office identified the girl as Iysha Rebecca Kruyer.

The girl was pronounced dead shortly after police were called to 944 San Carlos Creek Lane, near Horizon Drive and Boulder Highway, police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said.

The incident, which has been ruled accidental, was around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday.

DUPLICATE SERVICES

City Ride bus service in LV discontinued

Las Vegas' City Ride bus service ended at 5 p.m. Friday, a victim of budget tightening by the city.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada's bus routes cover the same or similar routes as City Ride. For information on those routes call 228-7433 or 229-6025, or go to www.rtcsouthernnevada.com.

A review of city operations found that City Ride duplicated existing services. From 2003 to 2008, the annual cost of the program went from $900,000 to $1.2 million, while ticket revenues dropped about 10 percent each year since 2005.

The RTC also is taking over the operation of the Downtown Transportation Center at 300 N. Casino Center Blvd.

'NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE'

LV police officer shoots himself accidentally

A Las Vegas police officer accidentally shot himself in the knee at the department's gun range Friday morning, a spokesman said.

The officer, who suffered only minor injuries, was participating in gun training around 11:20 a.m. when the incident occurred.

The bullet grazed the officer's knee, and he was taken to University Medical Center, police spokesman Jacinto Rivera said.

Police are calling the incident a "negligent discharge."

The name of the officer was not released.
