EIGHT UNITS DAMAGED
13 families displaced by apartment fire
A fire at a Henderson apartment complex Monday morning destroyed eight units and left about 13 families homeless.
The blaze started about 7:35 a.m. in a second-floor unit at Crystal Creek Apartments, near Warm Springs Road and Green Valley Parkway, Henderson Fire Department Battalion Chief Doug Koopman said.
Flames moved into the attic and spread to other apartments. Fire crews from the Henderson and Clark County departments knocked down the blaze in about two hours, Koopman said.
No injuries were reported.
Koopman said eight of the 13 occupied units were destroyed. Investigators were trying to determine what sparked the fire, which appeared to be accidental, he said.
The damage amount was estimated at $1.6 million.

Man found guilty of negligent homicide
A Mohave County Superior Court jury in Kingman, Ariz., found Richard Knetzer, 61, guilty of aggravated assault and negligent homicide in the August, 2008 death of his roommate, James Rogers, 45.
Prosecutor Doug Camacho said Rogers bled to death from an untreated hand wound after he was shot by Knetzer, of Golden Shores.
Knetzer faces up to 71/2 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced July 8.

Man pushing bike dies after being struck
A 46-year-old Las Vegas man pushing a bicycle near Hollywood Boulevard and Rochelle Avenue was struck and killed by a motorcycle Sunday night, Las Vegas police said.
The 2007 Harley-Davidson was traveling north on Hollywood about 9:40 p.m. when 46-year-old Charles O. Morgan, who was pushing his bicycle, turned to cross the road in front of the motorcycle, police said.
Morgan was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.
The motorcyclist, 46-year-old Michael Hartley, is listed in critical condition at the hospital. His passenger, 42-year-old Kathy Kertesz, was treated for moderate injuries.

Homicide victim's identity released
The body of a man found May 21 by a passer-by in a wooded area on state Route 160 has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Francisco Lambert-Cordero.
The 23-year-old's body was found around 12:30 p.m. about 10 miles west of Interstate 15. According to the coroner's office, he died of a gunshot wound to the head in what has been ruled a homicide.
Las Vegas police have not identified a suspect or motive.
It is unclear where Lambert-Cordero resided.

Arizona authorities identify traffic fatality
A man killed in a Saturday traffic accident in northwest Arizona has been identified as Enos Phillips, 59, of Meadview.
Mohave County sheriff's office spokeswoman Trish Carter said Phillips was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle that hit the back of a passenger van as both vehicles were eastbound on Oatman Highway in Golden Valley at 4:45 p.m.
Carter said the accident remains under investigation.
