POLICE STING OPERATION
Arizona man gets at least 23 years in prison
A Kingman, Ariz., man who offered to pay an undercover policeman $5,000 to murder his wife was sentenced to 231/4 years in prison Thursday.
The punishment for Jose Tellez, 44, was mandated in a plea agreement to charges of conspiracy, attempted murder and threatening and intimidating.
An undercover policeman was used in a sting operation after Tellez' girlfriend told authorities Tellez was pestering her to find a hit man to kill his wife.
Tellez was arrested in October in a parking lot meeting during which he supplied the officer with a picture of his wife along with personal information about her daily routine, police said.
The girlfriend-turned-informant told police that Tellez intended to pay for the hit.
FAKE DIVING DEATH CASE
California man arrested at casino in Las Vegas
A man who police say faked his own death in a Southern California diving accident has been arrested in Las Vegas after allegedly cheating while gambling.
Laguna Beach, Calif., police said Wednesday that John Sung Park was arrested earlier this week when Nevada Gaming Board officers spotted him cheating at the MGM Grand.
The 29-year-old from Buena Park, Calif., had been missing since September, when he disappeared while diving off Laguna Beach.
Police suspected he faked his death to avoid sentencing on burglary, theft, forgery and drug charges in Orange County and a drug warrant in Los Angeles County.
Park could be extradited to Orange County within weeks.
