SUSPICIOUS PACKAGES

Henderson police clear shopping center

Suspicious packages prompted Henderson police to evacuate a shopping center near Sunset Road and Stephanie Street on Tuesday night.

Officer Todd Rasmussen said that Burlington Coat Factory employees told police that at 8:41 p.m., two suspicious men walked into the store, left the packages and walked out. A security guard followed them out of the store and police arrested them across the street. Store employees also said the packages had a strong odor.

Rasmussen did not release the suspects' identities, detail the charges they faced or say what the packages contained.

INTERSTATE 40

Tractor trailer driver dies in Arizona crash

An Arkansas man died Sunday in a commercial vehicle traffic accident in northwest Arizona.

The Department of Public Safety said Blaze Wegele, 47, of Bella Vista, Ark., died at the scene of the 8:41 a.m. accident on Interstate 40 just east of Kingman.

Authorities said Wegele lost control of his westbound 2009 Freightliner. The rig left the highway and slammed into a wash embankment.

STATE ROUTE 68

Victim in Arizona accident identified

Arizona authorities identified the Kingman man killed in a Friday traffic accident as James L. Wood, 61.

The Department of Public Safety said Wood died at the scene of the 4:32 p.m. accident on State Route 68 in Golden Valley.

Wood was traveling west when he lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet pickup and drifted into the median of the divided highway.

The truck rolled several times before coming to rest on the side of the highway.

HUSBANDS' DEATHS

Two accused of killing suspect in two slayings

Two men have been charged in Los Angeles County with killing a woman who was suspected of plotting her husbands' deaths 19 years apart in the Philippines.

Eric Delacruz and Fernando Romero pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count each of conspiracy and murder. The criminal complaint alleges the men, Navy sailors at the time, shot 60-year-old Sonia Risken in April 2007 at her home in Lomita, Calif.

Risken was being investigated by police who said her two American husbands were shot in the head nearly two decades apart while visiting her family.
