CITY CODE

Pet owners allowed to renew licenses online

Pet owners in the city of Las Vegas can renew pet licenses online at the city's Web site, www.lasvegasnevada.gov.

New license applications, however, still must be done by mail or in person. Application forms are available online.

City code requires licenses for all dogs, cats and ferrets older than four months. Licenses for spayed or neutered animals cost $10. Otherwise, the license is $25. Service dogs are free.

Online renewal of a license can be done with a credit card at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/pay/petlicense.htm. The site went online Wednesday, a city spokesman said, but the page does not work with all Internet browsers.

PROPOSED BUDGET

Washoe County looks at laying off workers

Washoe County's proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year would involve laying off 92 workers and the anticipated early retirement of 144 others.

County libraries would take the biggest hit under the proposed $335 million general fund budget, losing 68 positions. The sheriff's office would lose 38 positions, 25 through layoffs.

County employees earlier agreed to 2.5 percent wage cuts, and some have agreed to pay for part of their health insurance costs, saving about $4 million.
