Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of teen

A male, who appeared to be in his late teens, was fatally shot in a garage Sunday, and a suspect was arrested hours later, Las Vegas police said.

Lt. Ted Snodgrass said the shooting happened at 6:10 p.m. at a residence on the 300 block of Brookside Lane, near U.S. Highway 95 and Rainbow Boulevard. He did not release the victim's name.

The shooting remains under investigation. Snodgrass said a suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody about 9:15 p.m. in a neighborhood near Michael Way and Washington Avenue.

Toddler taken to UMC in serious condition

A 19-month-old boy who fell from a second-story window Sunday was taken to University Medical Center and was in serious condition, North Las Vegas police said.

Sgt. Tim Bedwell said that about 3:15 p.m., police were called to a home on the 5700 block of Distant Drum Street, near Washburn and Pecos roads.

When they arrived, they saw blood on the driveway. The injured toddler had been taken by his parents to a nearby fire station, where firefighters called an ambulance.

Bedwell said the boy's injuries were not life-threatening.

He did not release the name of the toddler or the parents.

He said the boy's parents should not have moved him after he fell.

"This boy should have been immobilized," he said. "There is serious risk of doing more harm by trying to transport children."

Bedwell said his agency and Child Protective Services were continuing an investigation Sunday evening, but he did not expect any charges to be pressed.

"This has all the makings of an accident," he said. "We don't believe there is any criminal negligence involved."

Bedwell said the toddler's parents were at home during his fall.

The boy fell from his bedroom window after he apparently pushed against the screen.

Bedwell said the window was cracked open the night before because of warm weather.
