IN BRIEF

THREE VEHICLES INVOLVED

Accident claims life of Henderson woman

A 45-year-old Henderson woman was killed in a triple-vehicle crash on Boulder Highway at Russell Road, about 9 a.m. Sunday, Las Vegas police said.

The wreck occurred when a 2003 Toyota Avalon driven by 53-year-old Karen Jaco slammed into the rear of a 2008 Hyundai Tucson driven by Timothy Fletcher, 48, which was stopped for a traffic signal in the northbound center lane of Boulder Highway at Russell Road, police said. The Hyundai rolled onto its passenger side and came to rest upright in the intersection.

The passenger in the Hyundai, whose name was not immediately released, was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Fletcher and Jaco suffered minor injuries, along with Sharon Murray, 64, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Venture that was also involved in the crash, police said.

WATER SUPPLY OUTLOOK

Report says snowfall won't end drought

A report says recent heavy snowfall in the Sierra wasn't enough to dig western Nevada out of a drought, and runoff probably will be less than average this spring.

The water supply outlook issued Friday by the National Weather Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service says the average snowpack in the Truckee, Tahoe, Carson and Walker basins increased by 20 percent over a stormy, four-day period last week.

But the report warns that most of eastern California and Nevada remains in a drought because of well below-normal precipitation over the past two years.

The report says average reservoir storage is low and the area likely will struggle with water supplies again this year.

Passenger David Menne of Oregon remained in critical condition at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. Scott Jones, of Lake Forest, was discharged after being treated for injuries.

Witnesses said the plane appeared to develop engine trouble just before the crash.
