NEIGHBORHOOD SHOOTING

LV resident identified as victim in slaying

A man who was gunned down in the doorway of his home last week was identified Monday by the Clark County coroner's office as 39-year-old Charles Mitchell.

Mitchell, a Las Vegas resident, died of multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner's office said.

Police were called to Mitchell's home shortly before 7 p.m. Friday. Mitchell lived at 5504 Reiter Ave., near Smoke Ranch Road and Jones Boulevard.

Police said a witness saw two men wearing dark clothing and blue bandanas fleeing the scene.

Police said Mitchell's home did not appear to be burglarized.

LAKE MOHAVE

Drowning victims were Pahrump residents

The two Pahrump men found dead after a possible boating accident in Lake Mohave have been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.

Thomas Mercer, 70, and Francis Michael Blossom, 74, drowned Friday in what has been ruled an accident.

National Park Service spokesman Andrew Muñoz said that the men were reported missing about 4 p.m. Friday.

The men went onto the lake about 8 a.m. in a 12-foot aluminum boat, Muñoz said.

Rescue crews searched for them until about 10:30 p.m. Friday.

They resumed the search about 6:30 a.m. Saturday and found Mercer's body about 9:30 a.m. at Tamarisk Cove. Blossom's body was found in Nine Mile Cove at 4:30 p.m.

Muñoz said there were high winds on the lake Friday.
