Officer, 33, placed on paid leave in shooting

North Las Vegas police said Saturday that the officer who shot and killed a person Friday night was a 33-year-old who has been with the department for 16 months.

The officer, whose name was not released, made contact with at least one male subject near Ann Road and Revere Street about 7:20 p.m.

The incident led to a physical altercation, and one of the male subjects, whose name was not released, brandished a handgun, and the officer shot and killed the suspect.

The suspect, described as between his mid teens to his mid 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer has been placed on routine paid administrative leave.

The shooting was the first officer-involved shooting for the department since 2006.

MANNEQUIN WITH A PAST

Palin fan unknowingly buys Halloween effigy

The maker of a Sarah Palin mannequin said a would-be buyer backed out when he discovered its past: as an effigy hung by a noose in a Halloween display at a West Hollywood, Calif., house.

Professional window dresser ChadMichael Morrisette said the winner of the eBay auction thought he was buying a pro-Palin item until he heard a radio report about it.

Morrisette created the look-alike mannequin of the Republican vice presidential candidate and hung it from the roof of his house for Halloween.
