NORTH LAS VEGAS CRASH

Motorcyclist is killed in collision with truck

A motorcyclist was killed when a pickup pulled out in front of him on Craig Road near Simmons Street on Saturday.

North Las Vegas police said the motorcyclist was riding east on Craig about 11:20 a.m. when a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by a 57-year-old North Las Vegas man made a left turn in front of him at Fuselier Drive.

The motorcyclist hit the right side of the truck and was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, according to police.

Police did not identify the motorcyclist or the driver of the pickup.

The crash forced a temporary evacuation of the area when crash investigators found a military high explosive TNT container underneath the motorcycle about 2 p.m., North Las Vegas police said. The container turned out to be empty.

FIRE POSSIBLE CAUSE

Man finds 21-year-old son dead in bedroom

A man came home Saturday morning to find his 21-year-old son dead, possibly because of a fire.

Las Vegas Fire Department officials said the man came home from work about 7:50 a.m. and smelled smoke at their townhouse at 8465 Vast Horizon Ave., near Durango Drive and Gowan Road.

He searched for a cause of the smoke, but when he came to his son's room, he couldn't open the door, fire officials said. The man had to force the door open because his son was unresponsive and lying on the floor against the door.

Firefighters arrived to find that there had been a fire in the room. There was heavy black smoke and some fire damage in the room. The rest of the home had slight smoke damage.

The cause of death of the 21-year-old man is not known, fire officials said.

Investigators believe the cause of the fire was accidental and said that careless smoking could not be ruled out.
