Names of Arizona car crash victims released

Arizona officials have released the names of four people who were killed in a two-vehicle collision in northwest Arizona on Monday.

The Department of Public Safety reported a northbound 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser left U.S. Highway 93 and rolled through the median before it was struck by a southbound 2004 Pontiac Grand Am at 5:15 a.m., about 28 miles south of Hoover Dam.

Sgt. Jason Leonard said three Arizonans in the Land Cruiser who were killed included the driver, Adam Scott Klimek, 31, and passengers Enrique Quintero, 23, and Yvette Gonzalez, 18. Leonard said Adriana Morales, 18, and an infant believed to be her son were hospitalized in Las Vegas.

Leonard identified the deceased driver of the Pontiac as Gerardo Arias, 42, of El Paso, Texas. He said Arias' wife also was hospitalized in Las Vegas.

He said fatigue might have been a factor in the accident.

FAIRFIELD COUNCILMAN SHOT

22-year-old California official off life support

A 22-year-old Fairfield, Calif., city councilman shot in the head was declared brain dead and would be taken off life support, Mayor Harry Price said Tuesday.

An emotional Price said at a news conference that the family of Councilman Matt Garcia had decided to "let him die naturally" at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was taken with critical injuries after Monday night's shooting.

Garcia arrived at a friend's house around 8:30 p.m. and had just stepped out of his car when someone fired several shots. A single bullet struck Garcia in the back of the head, Fairfield Police Chief Kenton Rainey said.

Authorities said they still were trying to determine a motive in the shooting and whether Garcia was specifically targeted.

"We have no motive, no suspects," Rainey said.
