POSSIBLE MURDER-SUICIDE

Couple who were found dead identified

A couple found dead in their home Thursday in what is believed to be a murder-suicide have been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Maria Albis Sambria-Mendoza and Jesus J. Gonzalez-Lara.

The couple's son discovered his parents dead from gunshot wounds about 5:10 p.m. in a back bedroom of their home at 3085 Casey Drive, near Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road, Las Vegas police said.

The deaths of Sambria-Mendoza, 36, and Gonzalez-Lara, 40 are being investigated.

INTERSTATE 15 COLLISION

Victim of head-on crash identified

One of the victims of a head-on crash caused when a man drove the wrong way on Interstate 15 Wednesday has been identified as Alley Hassen, by the Clark County Coroner's office.

Hassen, 76, of Airdrie, Alberta, was traveling north on Interstate 15 when a Henderson man's car going in the wrong direction collided with Hassen's vehicle.

The Henderson man has yet to be identified.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Hassen, whose 2002 pickup was engulfed in flames, died of multiple injuries, according to the coroner's office.

KINGMAN KILLING

Defendant in 2007 homicide sentenced

The first of two Kingman men charged in a December, 2007 homicide was sentenced to prison Friday. Mohave County Superior Court Commissioner imposed the 22-year prison term specified in the plea agreement for John Leland Neal, 20.

Neal pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of Anthony Martin Jr., 28, of Kingman.

The victim's 8-year-old daughter and other family members expressed their grief during the sentencing hearing .

Co-defendant Pascual Acuna, 18, awaits trial next January.
