Man who fled court shocked with Taser
A man was shocked with a Taser in District Court after he tried to run away from officers Monday morning.
Officers booked Michael Gray, 39, into the county jail on charges of obstructing a police officer, failing to register as a former felon and trying to escape while in custody.
Gray, who also goes by the name Edward Gilbert, was before District Judge Donald Mosley about 9 a.m. when he fled the courtroom through the front door, said Michael Sommermeyer, District Court spokesman.
Gray, who is facing a charge of possessing or selling a document to establish a false ID, was taken into custody, cuffed with his hands behind his back and returned to the courtroom.
He maneuvered the cuffs to his front and ran out of the courtroom through a back door, Sommermeyer said.
Gray ran into District Judge Tim Wlliams' courtroom briefly before court marshals shocked him with a Taser and took him into custody.
He is scheduled to be sentenced at the end of October in the fake ID case.
PUBLIC LANDS
Fire restrictions to be lifted in some areas
Changes in weather have allowed wildland officials to lift fire restrictions on public lands, effective Wednesday.
Visitors to Southern Nevada national parks and recreation areas then will be free to build and maintain campfires and other permitted fire activities outside of previously approved areas.
The short list of restrictions was enacted in May after Southern Nevada experienced two winters with below-normal precipitation and a rise in wildland fires.
Fire restrictions are still in effect for the Spring Mountains Recreation Area. No campfires are permitted within one mile of homes in Kyle and Lee canyons, Deer Creek, Cold Creek and the communities of Trout Canyon and Mountain Springs. But those restrictions are expected to be lifted Nov. 15.
HIGH SPEED SUSPECTED
Arizona man killed in rollover accident
An unidentified man from Dolan Springs, Ariz., was killed in a single-vehicle rollover about 22 miles north of Kingman, officials with the Mohave County Sheriff's office said.
His body was found about 2:20 a.m. Monday on Stockton Hill Road near the Pearce Ferry Road intersection.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Jody Schanaman said the victim was thrown from the 2003 Toyota pickup he was driving. Excessive speed might have contributed to the wreck, she said.
ARIZONA INCIDENT
Death of man in house fire is ruled homicide
The death of a man in a house fire in Kingman, Ariz., has been ruled a homicide by the Mohave County Sheriff's office.
The man, whose name is being withheld, was found dead early Saturday when firefighters responded to a mobile home fire in the 3000 block of Packard Avenue.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Sandy Edwards said neighbors heard a loud noise and saw a vehicle speed from the scene shortly before the fire was reported at 6:42 a.m.
She said a car matching the description was stopped Sunday in Tempe, Ariz., and its driver, Shawn Avery Guerrero, 26, of Kingman, was booked into jail on misdemeanor warrants. First-degree murder and arson charges were added Monday.
Guerrero will be returned to Kingman for prosecution.
