CASE UNDER INVESTIGATION

Woman dies after grabbing moving truck

A 28-year-old Las Vegas woman died Saturday after she grabbed onto the passenger side of her boyfriend's moving truck and went under a rear tire, Las Vegas police said.

The woman's identity was not released by police.

The incident happened about 9:50 p.m. near Nellis Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.

Las Vegan Bryan Vanblericom, 26, was pulling away from a residence on East Blanton Drive in a 2005 Dodge truck.

Police said the woman grabbed the truck, held on for a short distance and then slid under the right rear tire.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Vanblericom and the woman had been arguing before the incident, which appeared to be an accident.

A complete investigation of the incident will take between 30 and 45 days, police said.

The incident marked the 70th traffic fatality of the year within the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police Department.

PRESCRIPTION ALLEGATIONS

Prosecutors weigh charges against doctor

Ventura County, Calif., prosecutors are trying to decide whether to pursue homicide charges against a 61-year-old doctor.

Dr. Bernard Bass already faces charges of writing 406 prescriptions after surrendering his license to prescribe.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Investigators are looking into Bass' role in the deaths of six patients.

Officials allege that people routinely came into the doctor's office with $80, and left with prescriptions for powerful, addictive painkillers.

REMNANTS OF HURRICANE DOLLY

Two people reported missing after flooding

About 300 people were evacuated from homes, campgrounds and a recreational vehicle park Sunday in Ruidoso, N.M., after flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Dolly. Two people were reported missing.

Meteorologists said more than 6 inches of rain fell in the mountainous area, and flash flood watches were in effect for central and eastern New Mexico.

The Rio Ruidoso went over its banks about midnight, said emergency management coordinator Tom Schafer.

Part of the race track at Ruidoso Downs flooded, canceling Sunday's race card.
