Teacher accused in sex assault out on bail
A Durango High School substitute teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student was released from the county jail on bail Tuesday night.
Angel Benjamin Menes, 39, was released from the Clark County Detention Center after posting a $6,000 bond, authorities said. He is scheduled to be arraigned May 15.
Authorities said Menes had a 16-year-old student perform oral sex on him in his wife's minivan. The girl made allegations of the incident on Friday. Las Vegas police arrested Menes Saturday night on charges of sexual assault and sexual misconduct with a student.
In Nevada, the legal age of consent is 16 but it's against the law for school employees to have sex with students.

Toddler who drowned in swimming pool ID'd
A toddler who drowned in a family pool Tuesday has been identified as 16-month-old Estrella Stephanie Mendoza of Las Vegas.
Police said medical personnel who attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation could not save the toddler, who lived at a home on East Boston and Gateway avenues. Police did not release the name of the adults who live at the home, in a neighborhood near Lamb Boulevard and St. Louis Avenue.
Las Vegas police Lt. Brian Evans said the investigation into the drowning was ongoing.
He wouldn't say whether the family was believed to have been negligent, nor would he specify how the infant ended up in the pool other than to say that the child was playing outside. Evans said a family member was supervising the child but wouldn't provide more details.

Pedestrian killed when car goes onto sidewalk
A pedestrian died after being hit by a car that veered onto a sidewalk Tuesday night.
The man, who has not been identified, was walking on the north sidewalk along Lake Mead Boulevard near Nellis Boulevard as a 1995 Honda Del Sol driven by 36-year-old Omar Hurtada-Mayo was westbound on Lake Mead, Las Vegas police said.
The Honda, for reasons unknown, drifted to the right, leaving the roadway and striking a chain-link fence and wooden power pole at 9:29 p.m., police said. At some point, the car struck the pedestrian.
The victim was taken to University Medical Center, police said. He died Wednesday.
Hurtada-Mayo was not injured. The accident is under investigation, police said.

Motorcyclist who died in crash is identified
A man who died after losing control of his motorcycle on Sandy Valley Road on Tuesday has been identified as Clifford Sharp, 50, of Jean.
Sharp was riding east at mile marker 6 at 5:28 a.m. when his motorcycle left the roadway to the southeast and went into the desert. He was thrown from the motorcycle.
He was airlifted to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, according to Las Vegas police.
CAR HITS WALL
Name of 28-year-old victim in crash released
A woman who died after the 1999 Mercedes-Benz she was driving slammed into a brick wall on Vegas Valley Boulevard early Saturday has been identified as 28-year-old Janaia Johnson of Las Vegas.
Johnson was driving east on Vegas Valley, east of Nellis Boulevard, at a high rate of speed at 12:32 a.m., Las Vegas police said.
She lost control of the vehicle, spun across the westbound lanes and hit a wall 80 feet east of Green Tree Avenue. She was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
